Our Mission
Shaping the future of European cities we want to live in and visit
The Future of Cities Coalition seeks to shape the future of European cities we want to live in and visit. As a pan-EU initiative, it is committed to advancing sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based development of cities. At a time when housing, tourism, and urban livability are increasingly intertwined, the Coalition will advise industry and civil society and engage with policymakers on how to address acute local challenges through cross-sector collaboration, coordinated advocacy, and innovative solutions.
Our vision
The Coalition brings together influential partners from across sectors to make the most of the opportunities presented and tackle urgent pressures facing Europe’s cities – ranging from housing supply and affordability to the social and environmental impacts of tourism, including the role of Short Term Rentals. Recognizing that the complexities of housing manifest differently across European cities, the Coalition actively engages regional leaders to ensure its initiatives reflect the diverse perspectives and needs of cities throughout Europe.
The Coalition offers an independent platform for dialogue between industry, policymakers, academic leaders, and local communities. Turning evidence and ideas into proposals and practical action, it seeks forward-looking solutions that enhance livability, economic vitality and sustainable growth in cities across Europe.
Our mission
- Offering a cross-sector forum for dialogue and joint action, gathering EU-level organisations, national and local representatives, industry leaders, researchers, and local communities.
- Informing on housing supply and affordability policy frameworks and research.
- Delivering actionable recommendations to address real urban challenges on housing, tourism and livability facing European cities.
- Hosting and facilitating policy dialogues and discussion formats to exchange and generate innovative ideas, spark collaboration, showcase innovation, and amplify best practices across European markets.
- Engaging directly with policymakers at EU, national and city levels, ensuring that the coalition’s insights and proposals inform ongoing policy processes and translate into meaningful results for cities.
- Supporting active participation through a dynamic chair, partner organisations, and leading national and city experts, who shape the Coalition’s work.
- Actively contributing to the public debate through policy briefs and papers.
- Generating positive visibility around the Coalition’s efforts to address housing and tourism challenges in cities, especially when it comes to implementing or testing new ideas (e.g. through pilot programs).
Next steps
As we launch the Coalition’s founding phase, we are inviting a select group of leading experts and organisations from across Europe to join us at the outset. Your involvement now would help establish its agenda and first areas of impact. Early involvement offers the opportunity to shape priorities, influence debates, and help set the future urban agenda at a moment of major policy change. We would be delighted to explore how you might engage as part of this new platform for collaboration.
